Upper Secondary

Cambridge Upper Secondary is typically for learners aged 14 to 16 years. It offers learners the route to gaining Cambridge IGCSEs. Cambridge Upper Secondary builds on the foundations of Cambridge Lower Secondary, although learners do not need to complete that stage before this one. During Year 10, students have the opportunity to choose option subjects to study at IGCSE Level, alongside a number of core subjects. Students will study either Double Award Science or a minimum of 2 single Sciences. Unless special dispensation has been sought, all students have to take the following compulsory subjects:
  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Business Studies
  • Information Technology
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Physical Education (non-examined)
  • Islamic Studies (for Muslim students only)
  • Arabic as a First Language (for Arab passport holders only)
  • Arabic as a Second Language (not compulsory for non-Arab students from Year 11)
If students do not continue with Arabic as a Second Language or only select 2 science subjects, students have the opportunity to choose additional subjects. The option subjects include:
  • Geography
  • History
  • French
  • Urdu
  • Physical Education
  • Students also have the opportunity to take examinations in their home language
